Green manures are selected cover crops grown mainly outside the vine’s active period (late summer to early spring) to cover soil, prevent erosion, suppress weeds, and improve soil fertility by adding organic matter after termination . Unlike spontaneous vegetation, the species selected for sowing are less competitive with vines and adapted for specific on-site purpose.
