There are increasing concerns in Sweden of herbicide resistance among autumn germinating weed species and herbicide leakage. Agronomic measures are key to reducingthe use of herbicides and other pesticides. For example, crop rotations with crops that have different life cycles keep weed populations at acceptable levels with less need for herbicides than more simple rotations. To reduce problems with black grass (Alopecurus myosuroides) the most effective preventive measures are to include a perennial grass-clover ley and to increase the proportion of spring-sown crops in the rotation (Lundin & Friberg, 2021).
