Band spraying can either be spraying on top of the crop or between the crop rows. Band spraying is possible for crops with spacing between rows wider than 12.5 cm. By spraying only a row / strip, large savings can be achieved relatively easily. Row spraying occurs when soil is not yet fully covered by the crop biomass. Timing is important to avoid damaging the crop when using non-selective herbicides, such as glyphosate, between rows. Precise cameras/GPS coordinates are needed. An important advantage of spraying between rows compared with hoeing is that the capacity is higher. Also, spraying between rows in not that dependant on dry weather to achieve good results.
