Electrical weed control is an innovative alternative to chemical and mechanical methods for combating weeds in winegrowing. It is based on the application of a high-voltage electric current (8,000V) which passes through the plant, causing its cells and vessels to burst down to the root, leading to its gradual destruction over a period of a few days. This technology is implemented using a machine consisting of an electric generator, powered by the tractor’s power take-off, and metal applicators that act as electric poles. The electric weed-killer is applied under the row of vines.
