Robotic weeding requires the use of machines, either tractor mounted or autonomous robots. These have cameras to detect weeds between crop rows and control weeds directly either by mechanical control, lasers or targeted spraying. Most systems do not require the use of pesticides, and those that do will use a highly reduced amount due to precision spraying. The autonomous robotic systems reduce time and labour inputs.  Robotic weeding can eliminate or significantly reduce herbicide usage and enhance environmental benefits.
