The use of multiple cultural control tools such as crop rotation, tillage type, stale seedbeds, cultivar choice, seed rates and sowing date are extremely useful for weed management in arable rotations. These practices are readily available to farmers and are essential for organic farming systems. The use of cultural control requires a longer-term rotational management plan for weeds. For conventional farms, this may reduce the need for pesticide inputs, therefore reducing resistance risk, so the planning and use of appropriate cultural controls can be a good integrated weed management strategy.
